Order Sync

When a Shopify order is placed, InSyncer pushes it into Acumatica as a sales order. This page covers order sync configuration, including how tax is handled.

Each Shopify order becomes a sales order in Acumatica. You can configure:

  • Customer mapping — route all retail orders to a single debtor (e.g. a cash sale account), or create a new Acumatica customer for each order.
  • Order type — the Acumatica sales order type to use (typically SO).
  • Fulfillment sync — when an order is completed in Acumatica, InSyncer sends the tracking information back to Shopify so the customer receives a fulfilment notification.

See Connect to Shopify for initial setup.

By default, Acumatica recalculates tax on every incoming sales order using its own tax zones and jurisdiction configuration. For US merchants using Shopify Tax, this causes a problem: Shopify calculates tax at the delivery address in real time, across every US jurisdiction, but Acumatica can only validate tax against zones you have configured in advance. An order from an unconfigured jurisdiction (e.g. Suffolk County, New York) will error.

Tax Amount Override solves this. When enabled, InSyncer sends Shopify’s exact calculated tax amount directly into Acumatica and instructs Acumatica not to recalculate it. The tax is recorded against a Tax ID you nominate (e.g. SHOPIFY).

  • You use Shopify Tax for US sales tax calculation.
  • You are Nexus in a small number of states and haven’t pre-configured every jurisdiction in Acumatica.
  • You want Shopify to remain the source of truth for tax calculation and reporting, with Acumatica recording the correct dollar amount on each order.

This is also compatible with Avalara — merchants running Avalara inside Acumatica can point Tax Amount Override at their Avalara Tax ID, and Shopify’s figure is recorded against it.

  1. In the InSyncer app, go to Orders settings.
  2. Enable Tax Amount Override.
  3. Enter the Acumatica Tax ID to record tax against (e.g. SHOPIFY). This Tax ID must exist in Acumatica — create it if it doesn’t.
  4. Save. Subsequent orders will have their Shopify tax total passed through directly.
